POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is located on-site at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. The Presser position plays a critical role in supporting the operational readiness of the United States Marine Corps by ensuring that all uniforms, garments, and textile items are professionally pressed, finished, and returned to service members in pristine condition. This position requires high attention to detail, consistency, and adherence to military standards. The Presser must work efficiently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment, handling a variety of military uniforms and specialty fabrics with care and precision. Professionalism, reliability, and quality craftsmanship are essential in maintaining the appearance and discipline associated with the Marine Corps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate steam irons, hot-head presses, or automated finishing equipment to remove wrinkles and shape uniforms, linens, and other military-issued garments according to USMC specifications.
  • Press items such as dress uniforms, combat utility uniforms, and ceremonial attire to exact creases and presentation standards.
  • Sort garments by type, fabric, and required press method, ensuring each item receives the appropriate care and handling.
  • Inspect pressed items for completeness, proper crease placement, and compliance with Marine Corps grooming and uniform regulations.
  • Identify and flag any damaged or improperly laundered items for reprocessing or repair.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work orders and processed items to ensure accountability and traceability.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine cleaning of pressing equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with installation security and conduct policies.
  • Collaborate with other laundry team members to meet daily production quotas and delivery deadlines.
  • Assist with folding, packaging, or preparing garments for return to USMC personnel, as needed.
  • Report equipment issues, operational delays, or material shortages to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and handling procedures for personal items and military property.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and timely customer service to U.S. Marine Corps personnel, ensuring all inquiries, concerns, and special garment requests are handled with accuracy, discretion, and a commitment to excellence.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience in garment pressing, commercial laundry, or military textile support preferred.
  • Familiarity with handling military uniforms or specialized garments is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive pressing motions.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-standards environment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation and pass applicable background checks or security clearance requirements.
  • Willingness to learn, cross-train and become knowledgeable in other functional areas.

WORKING ENVIRONEMENT

  • Indoor facility with exposure to high heat, steam, and industrial laundry chemicals.
  • Physically demanding environment requiring standing, lifting up to 40 lbs, and repetitive motion.
  • Structured and regulated setting in support of U.S. Marine Corps operational needs.
